Microarc oxidation
Microarc oxidation
Microarc oxidation(MAO), as a relatively new surface treatment technique based on the traditional anodizing process, has attracted great interest in recent years, because the oxide coating produced by MAO process is of excellent properties like anti-abrasion, corrosion resistance or decorative property on Al, Mg and Ti alloys and has promising application prospect in many fields
Microarc oxidation provides multifunctional nanostructured surface coatings on the parts with a wide range of properties, including:
* Durability
* Corrosion resistance
* Thermal and heat-resistant
* Dielectric properties
* Decorative properties
As a result of the microarc oxidation, an anode formed coating consisting of aluminum oxide Al2O3 into alpha and gamma phases.
Specifications of coationgs obtained on alluminiuma alloys:
thickness – Up to 400 microns
hardness – Up to 21GPa
critical voltage -up to 2500 V.
porosity – 5-50%
adhesion – Up to 350 MPa
retro-reflection – Up to 80%

Equipment:
In general MAO equipment consist from several components:
1. power equipment: specialized power sources;
2. baths for the preparation of surfaces, treatment and washing;
3. auxiliary equipment: a distiller, a filter pump to clean and transfer solutions, reserve vessels, devices of control of the coating quality and the electrolyte condition.
